Kauai added its county surcharge on 1 January 2019. Retail sales and services paid 4 percent before that, with 4.1666 percent the most you could pass on. Since then it is 4.5 and 4.712. The free GET Pass-On Calculator works out the GET to add on any price.

Wholesale, manufacturing and producing stay at 0.5 percent, and the surcharge does not touch them. A farm or a maker that also sells retail has to keep the two apart in the books.

A rental on Kauai owes GET at 4.5 percent, the state TAT at 11 percent from 1 January 2026, and the county TAT at 3 percent. Kauai was the first county to start its own TAT, on 1 October 2021, and since 1 February 2026 it has been paid through a new county payment site.
